Be Present
I like communication. I believe that every person I meet is an opportunity for me to improve and/or enhance myself. Every encounter is a chance for me to observe and discern character qualities and mannerisms that I could benefit from by emulating or avoiding. They are opportunities to hear another perspective, see a different side and walk a while in a different pair of shoes. As a 20-something, I often feel torn between two generations. I
Check This Out
It may just be me, but this year is flying by quicker than usual. It’s April, and I don’t know when that happened. I’m not emotionally prepared for it. Easter next week, then Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and OMG! It’s almost Christmas! Moreover, it’s got me thinking about how rapidly our industry is moving and changing, too. (Transitional sentence, what up.) Technology is impacting us on all levels, and every new toy and product means
Twitter Now & Then
Twitter tweets and twinkles in the twilight of its 6th birthday. The first “tweet” was sent out on March 21, 2006 by Twitter founder and CEO, Jack Dorsey. The tweet simply read, “just setting up my twttr.” That’s right twttr was the name of the platform at the time. However, it soon added in the i and e to form the now recognizable Twitter. Six years later, the social media platform has over 100 million active
It Was Just A Matter of Time
The end of March is upon us. And that means Facebook is switching over to the Timeline format, meaning every Brand Page will be needing some big ole’ updates. If you have switched over already, high five. I applaud you. Rock on. This is still a new format, and like everyone else, I’m still forming my opinion. Here’s what we know so far: Engagement. Facebook has stated that higher fan engagement is the most important goal
#DailyNews
My mornings in the office typically start with a big cup of coffee and my computer. As I drink my coffee and try to convince my body to fully wake up, I peruse all of my communication sources- emails, voicemails, Facebook, Twitter, maybe Drudge Report if I’m feeling particularly ambitious. In less than 20 minutes I am up to speed on everything important that is taking place in the world on any particular day. Or at
Technology could have saved me a $1,000
The classy city of San Diego is home of many colleges and three major universities: San Diego State University, University of California San Diego, and University of San Diego. On these campuses and many others throughout California and the United States, students live dirt cheap and survive on ramen noodles, tap water and other bare essentials.
Augmented Reality: Science Fiction or Revolutionary Technology
The year is 2012, Whitney Houston has tragically passed away, another end of the world prediction will be proven false, and the future of advertising and marketing is quickly arising in a unique form. Many movies attempt to foresee the future in a 90 minute extravaganza. However, it is only real through the lenses of good editing and Hollywood tricks. Some movies that come to mind are Blade Runner, Back to the Future Part II and
Video is the Word for 2012 Social Media
So this month we’ve all read the slew of social media experts at advertising and marketing agencies blog, tweet and publish their 2012 predictions — and last year saw its share of both the perceptive (the embrace of mobile) and the preposterous (Google+ immediately dethroning Facebook). To keep my comments in the first camp, let me present my single Media Declaration of 2012. Video is going to be this year’s social marketing game changer. Just as
Learning from Generation Facebook
Social networking–a phrase, a marketing platform, a way of life. Marketing and PR has infiltrated what was once an underground website aimed at bored college students (you’re so behind if you haven’t seen The Social Network yet), and has been working out how to best capitalize on an 800,000,000-strong audience. A quick Google search will confirm that everyone is not only trying to get a piece of the action, but give their incredibly mediocre two cents
Online Advertising Spend to Exceed Print for 2012
As interactive media transforms and consumer influences continue to shift, 2012 is expected to be the year that online advertising will surpass print. A study released by eMarketer this month predicts that online advertising will grow 23.3% to $39.5 billion in 2012. The study forecasts that advertisers will spend $33.8 billion on magazine and newspaper advertisements, for a slight 6% decrease from 2011. The study also predicts that online ad spending will continue to increase every
